GAVIN RENWICK - Opening Circle Presenter
For over 20 years Gavin has taught in and worked through architecture, design, fine art and curation. His undergraduate study was in Interior Design at Napier College, Edinburgh, and his M.A. undertaken at the Royal College of Art, London (supported by the prestigious Darwin Scholarship). The University of Dundee was the base for his doctoral studies, resulting in the thesis “Spatial Determination in the Canadian North: A Theoretical Overview and Practice-Based Response,” one of the first practice-led PhDs submitted in the UK.

In 2005 Gavin was appointed Professor and Chair of Art & Policy at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee. Gavin's present work places the practitioner-researcher as a cultural intermediary between indigenous and metropolitan culture. His aim is to facilitate cultural continuity for First Nation communities, particularly in the Canadian Northwest Territories. He joined the University of Alberta in 2010.

NAIITS An Indigenous Learning Community

NAIITS An Indigenous Learning Community (formerly the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies) is one of two members of Indigenous Pathways (IP), a nonsectarian, non-profit organization dedicated to working together with the Indigenous community.

NAIITS’ focus within IP is the development and articulation of Indigenous perspectives in theology and practice. We encourage Indigenous learning styles and world views in our instruction as we facilitate the development of a body of work addressing biblical, theological, and ethical issues from Indigenous perspectives.

NAIITS offers graduate and post-graduate degrees and awards.
